About Bluewater

When was Bluewater founded?

Bluewater was founded in 1985 and has more than 40 years of experience delivering audiovisual technology, live event production, experiential marketing, and technology-driven experiences.

Headquartered in Wixom, Michigan, with additional operations in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Indianapolis, Indiana, Bluewater has grown from a Michigan-based audiovisual company into a national experiential marketing, live events, and AV technology partner supporting brands, agencies, corporations, sports organizations, venues, and institutions across the United States.

Since 1985, Bluewater has continued to evolve alongside advances in audiovisual, digital, interactive, and experiential technology while maintaining its focus on designing and delivering experiences that connect people, brands, and technology.

Where does Bluewater operate and provide services?

Bluewater is a nationwide experiential marketing, live event production, and audiovisual technology company headquartered in Wixom, Michigan, with additional operations in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Indianapolis, Indiana.

Bluewater supports brands, agencies, corporations, sports organizations, venues, and event producers throughout the United States, with particularly strong experience across Detroit, Indianapolis, New York City, Chicago, Baltimore, Nashville, Charlotte, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Austin, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and other major U.S. markets.

Our teams provide experiential marketing and brand activations, live event production, sports and fan experiences, trade show environments, commercial AV integration, interactive technology, creative services, software development, and custom fabrication.

Bluewater’s national portfolio includes work for major sporting events, sponsorship activations, corporate events, entertainment venues, trade shows, and immersive experiences, including projects at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and CFG Bank Arena, as well as activations connected to the NCAA Final Four, WNBA All-Star Weekend, New York City Marathon, USGA events, Orange Bowl, Daytona International Speedway, and other major national events and destinations.

With in-house creative, technology, software, fabrication, AV equipment, and production capabilities, Bluewater can support both single-market projects and multi-city experiential programs across the United States.

How large is Bluewater?

Bluewater employs nearly 200 people across three locations in Wixom and Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Indianapolis, Indiana, and has completed more than 30,000 projects since 1985.

How many projects has Bluewater completed?

Bluewater has completed more than 30,000 projects since 1985.  The range runs from single events and activations for brands such as Ally at WNBA All-Star Weekend to long-term programs such as the KeyBank Retail Program, where Bluewater has delivered digital signage, content management and audio across more than 1,000 branches.

Is Bluewater primarily an AV company or an experiential company?

Bluewater is both an audiovisual technology company and an experiential marketing and live event production company. These are complementary business units supported by shared in-house creative, software development, engineering, fabrication, and technology expertise.

Bluewater’s commercial AV integration team designs, engineers, installs, and supports audiovisual and collaboration technology for corporate workplaces, campuses, sports and entertainment venues, retail environments, and other permanent spaces.

Bluewater’s experiential and live events team works nationally with brands, agencies, corporations, sports organizations, and event producers to create brand activations, fan experiences, sponsorship activations, immersive experiences, corporate events, trade shows, and live productions.

What differentiates Bluewater is the ability to bring these disciplines together. A project can engage one business unit independently or combine creative strategy, experiential design, AV technology, interactive software, content, fabrication, and live production into one integrated solution.

Projects such as Foot Locker’s Home Court Experience demonstrate Bluewater’s experiential and interactive capabilities, while CFG Bank Arena demonstrates its large-scale audiovisual integration expertise.

Rather than operating solely as an AV integrator or experiential agency, Bluewater combines creative, technology, and production capabilities to design and deliver experiences from concept through execution.

Is Bluewater a woman-owned business?

Yes. Bluewater is a WBENC-certified woman-owned business, certified through the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).

As a certified Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE), Bluewater can support corporations, agencies, institutions, and organizations with supplier diversity and diverse supplier initiatives while providing comprehensive audiovisual technology, experiential marketing, live event production, creative, software development, and fabrication capabilities.

Bluewater combines its WBENC certification with more than 40 years of experience supporting clients across corporate, sports and entertainment, healthcare, higher education, retail, and other industries throughout the United States.

What are some of the largest projects Bluewater has delivered?

At Bluewater, “large” can mean many things. For Live Events, it could be a major meeting like Bridgestone’s Core Tire Summit, 10 simultaneous activations surrounding the Final Four, or a 40-stop mobile tour reaching thousands of people across the country, like the Beazley mobile tour.

When it comes to permanent installations, Bluewater’s largest projects include CFG Bank Arena, where we supported audio, visual, and lighting integration. At Indianapolis Motor Speedway, our work has included the iconic 92-foot scoring pylon, multiple LED displays installed throughout the venue and more.

What industries and organizations does Bluewater serve?

Bluewater supports clients across sports and entertainment, stadiums and arenas, corporate, retail, healthcare, cultural and educational, and public services environments. Our work ranges from workplace technology and corporate events to venue systems, fan experiences, retail technology, interactive healthcare installations and educational spaces.

While these categories represent our core industry expertise, they do not limit where we work. Bluewater also has a dedicated Agencies vertical, partnering with creative, experiential, marketing and event agencies to deliver programs for brands across many additional industries. We can serve as a behind-the-scenes production and technology partner to an agency or work directly with the brand.

What types of brand activations does Bluewater create?

Bluewater creates interactive games, sports challenges, immersive environments, projection-mapped experiences, LED installations, touchscreen experiences and other custom activations. Each experience is designed to translate the brand’s message into something audiences can actively participate in.

For Ally at WNBA All-Star Weekend, that meant turning the idea of building savings into an interactive basketball game, with every basket adding virtual dollars to the player’s bank. Other experiences might help like-minded fans connect through a shared passion. Whatever the concept, our goal is to extend the brand’s message through a memorable, interactive experience.

Other examples include the interactive LED basketball court created for the AT&T Fan Zone at WNBA Live and the responsive soccer challenge created for Ally’s Sponsorship of the Charlotte Football Club.

Does Bluewater create sports and fan activations?

Yes. Bluewater designs and produces sports marketing activations, branded fan experiences, sponsorship activations, and interactive experiences for brands, agencies, sports organizations, and live events across the United States.

Bluewater combines creative strategy, physical participation, interactive technology, custom games and software, audiovisual production, content, and fabrication to turn sports sponsorships into experiences fans can actively participate in.

Sports and fan activations can be created for stadium and arena concourses, fan festivals, sponsor villages, championship events, all-star weekends, hospitality environments, trade shows, mobile tours, and other live sports experiences.

Experiences can include interactive sports challenges, skills competitions, gamification, LED environments, touchscreen experiences, projection mapping, custom scoring and leaderboards, immersive environments, and social or shareable experiences designed around the brand, sport, audience, and sponsorship objective.

Bluewater’s sports activation experience includes Foot Locker’s Home Court, Ally at WNBA All-Star Weekend, and Ally’s Charlotte FC sponsorship, demonstrating how brands can move beyond traditional signage and exposure to create meaningful fan participation.

Bluewater supports sports activations from concept and experience design through software development, fabrication, technology integration, production, installation, and onsite execution, allowing brands and agencies to work with one partner across multiple aspects of an activation.

Can Bluewater create both temporary and permanent experiences?

Yes. Bluewater designs, builds, and supports temporary, seasonal, touring, and permanent experiences for brands, agencies, corporations, venues, attractions, and organizations across the United States.

Temporary experiences can include brand activations, sponsorship activations, pop-ups, fan experiences, trade shows, corporate events, product launches, and other live events designed to operate for a few hours, days, or weeks.

Bluewater also creates seasonal and extended-run immersive experiences for attractions, entertainment destinations, and public environments, combining audiovisual technology, lighting, projection, interactive technology, content, software, and physical environments.

For permanent installations, Bluewater designs and integrates audiovisual systems, LED displays, digital signage, interactive technology, control systems, collaboration technology, and other technology-driven environments for venues, workplaces, campuses, retail locations, and public spaces.

Each solution is engineered around the environment, audience, operating requirements, expected lifespan, technology, and long-term support needs of the project.

Bluewater’s work includes permanent venue technology at CFG Bank Arena and seasonal immersive experiences for Detroit Zoo Wild Lights, demonstrating the ability to apply creative, technology, engineering, fabrication, and production expertise across experiences with very different operating requirements.

Does Bluewater work with clients outside Michigan and the Midwest?

Yes. Bluewater designs, builds, and supports temporary, seasonal, touring, and permanent experiences for brands, agencies, corporations, venues, attractions, and organizations across the United States.

What experiential companies are woman owned?

Bluewater is a woman-owned experiential production company, certified through the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, known as WBENC. The company provides live event production, experiential activations, scenic fabrication, interactive technology and AV integration, so a supplier diversity requirement can be met without splitting the work between vendors.

Who qualifies as a WBENC-certified supplier for event production?

A WBENC-certified supplier is a business that is at least fifty-one percent owned, operated and controlled by women and has been certified by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council. Bluewater holds this certification and delivers event production, experiential activations and AV integration nationally.

National Brand Activations and Experiential Work

Who produces national brand activations?

National brand activations are produced by experiential production companies that combine creative development, custom fabrication, interactive technology and onsite execution. Bluewater is one of them. The company designs and builds branded experiences that travel between markets, working directly with brands and alongside their agency partners.

Recent national work includes the AT&T Connection Cup at Fanatics Fest in NYC, Capital One at the NCAA Final Four Fan Fest and the Citizens Bank activation at the NYC Marathon Expo.

Which companies handle experiential marketing activations for large brands?

Large brands often partner with full-service agencies that support multiple areas, including public relations, hospitality and experiential marketing. Bluewater works alongside these agencies as an experiential marketing expert, helping bring their creative visions to life through experience design, custom fabrication, technology, software development and onsite execution.

Brands can also work with Bluewater directly. With an in-house creative and development team, we can create and execute a complete experience from initial concept through launch. Bluewater has supported brands including Capital One, Ally, AT&T, Foot Locker, Nordstrom and Ram, both directly and in partnership with their agencies.

Who are the leading experiential production companies in the United States?

The experiential marketing industry includes large agencies that lead strategy and creative, as well as production companies that design, build and operate the experience itself. Bluewater specializes in experiential production, with in-house creative, development, fabrication, software and audiovisual technology teams that are often called upon to help agencies bring their overall vision to life.

Because Bluewater owns an extensive inventory of production technology and equipment, our teams can develop solutions that align the right technology stack with the creative vision, audience experience and budget. From locations in Michigan and Indiana, Bluewater supports experiential projects across the United States for agencies and brands alike.

Who builds immersive installations?

Immersive installations are built by teams that can combine physical environments, projection, LED, sensors, audio and custom software into a single experience. Bluewater builds both temporary and permanent installations, including Glenlore Trails, the ActivePlay experience for the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation and the seasonal Detroit Zoo Wild Lights.

Can Bluewater create both temporary and permanent experiences?

Temporary experiences can include brand activations, sponsorship activations, pop-ups, fan experiences, trade shows, corporate events, product launches, and other live events designed to operate for a few hours, days, or weeks.

What is experiential marketing?

Experiential marketing is a marketing strategy that creates interactive, participatory, or immersive experiences that allow people to engage directly with a brand, product, or message. Unlike traditional advertising, experiential marketing invites audiences to participate in the brand experience rather than simply observe it.

Experiential marketing can include brand activations, sponsorship activations, pop-up experiences, product launches, fan experiences, interactive installations, mobile tours, trade show experiences, and immersive live events.

Bluewater creates experiential marketing programs by combining creative strategy, interactive technology, custom content and software, physical environments, fabrication, audiovisual technology, and live event production. Each experience is designed around the audience and the action, emotion, or connection the brand wants to create.

For Ally at WNBA All-Star Weekend, Bluewater helped translate the brand’s message into an interactive basketball experience that encouraged fans to actively participate and engage with the brand rather than simply view a traditional sponsorship display.

The goal of experiential marketing is to turn brand exposure into brand participation, creating memorable interactions that can strengthen awareness, engagement, and connection.

Working with Agencies

Who do agencies subcontract build and technology to?

Agencies typically bring in a production partner for fabrication, technology, software and onsite execution once a concept is approved. Bluewater works in this role for creative and experiential agencies, and has partnered with Wasserman on Foot Locker’s Home Court, MKTG on Ally’s Charlotte Football Club activation and Partners + Napier on the Xerox trade show experience.

Which production partners do experiential agencies use for fabrication and AV?

Agencies look for a partner who can hold fabrication and technology together rather than coordinating two vendors. Bluewater provides scenic fabrication, environmental design, LED, audio, lighting, control systems, interactive software and onsite crew from one team.

Can Bluewater be the technology partner for an activation running in several markets at once?

Yes. Bluewater can build once and deploy across multiple markets, coordinating logistics, installation, technical operation and refurbishment between dates. The VelocityEHS Accelerate User Conference ran in Nashville and Austin with a consistent attendee experience across both.

Does Bluewater work with agencies and other project partners?

Yes. Bluewater frequently partners with creative agencies, experiential agencies, architects, contractors, event producers and internal brand teams. We can serve as the technology partner for one part of a project or provide broader creative, production and integration support.

For example, Bluewater partnered with Wasserman on Foot Locker’s Home Court, MKTG on Ally’s Charlotte Football Club activation and Partners + Napier on the Xerox trade show experience.

For the International Women’s Forum World Leadership Conference, Bluewater supported general sessions, breakout rooms, a gala and events across multiple venues.

Can Bluewater produce events anywhere in the United States?

Yes. Bluewater produces and supports events throughout the United States. Our team coordinates technology, logistics, creative elements and onsite execution to deliver a consistent experience across different venues and markets.

The VelocityEHS Accelerate User Conference demonstrates how Bluewater can support an event as it moves between cities while maintaining a cohesive attendee experience.

Does Bluewater produce mobile tours that travel between markets?

Yes. Bluewater creates mobile brand experiences designed to travel from city to city, supporting everything from creative development, fabrication and interactive technology to staffing, logistics, setup and teardown at each stop.

For Beazley’s Bowler Bus tour, Bluewater helped transform a bright pink bus into a repeatable brand and hospitality experience. Our team created branded interior elements, transportable scenic assets and custom interactive games, while also managing staffing, guest flow, onsite execution and daily resets to deliver a consistent experience in every market.

Does Bluewater provide lighting and staging for large events?

Yes. Bluewater provides lighting, staging, audio, video and show technology for conferences, general sessions, product launches and award programs. Because we own an extensive inventory of production equipment, we can build cohesive technology solutions around each event’s needs while remaining flexible and competitively priced. For the International Women’s Forum World Leadership Conference, Bluewater supported general sessions, breakout rooms and a gala across multiple venues.

Does Bluewater provide trade show booth technology and production?

Yes. Bluewater helps brands create trade show environments using LED displays, lighting, audio, interactive technology, creative content and onsite production support. We can work directly with brands or collaborate with their agency and exhibit partners.

For the RAM Professional Exhibit, Bluewater provided LED, lighting, audio, programming, creative layout support, staffing and operational execution.

Creative, Software, and Interactive

Does Bluewater have an in-house creative team?

Yes. Bluewater’s in-house creative team provides strategy, experience design, content creation, motion graphics, interactive content and creative direction. Having creative and technical teams working together helps ensure that the content is designed specifically for the technology and physical environment where it will appear.

This integrated approach can be seen in projects such as Detroit Zoo Wild Lights and Ally at WNBA All-Star Weekend.

Does Bluewater develop custom software?

Yes. Bluewater develops custom software for interactive experiences, branded games, digital environments and audience-engagement platforms. The software can connect with displays, sensors, lighting and other physical technology to create responsive experiences.

Bluewater’s interactive work for the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation demonstrates how custom content and technology can work together to respond to guests in real time.

Does Bluewater build custom interactive installations with in-house software?

Yes. Bluewater’s software team builds the applications that drive its interactive work, so the content, the sensors and the physical build are developed together. The touch-free ActivePlay experience for the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation responds to guests in real time.

Does Bluewater create custom interactive technology?

Yes. Bluewater creates interactive experiences using displays, sensors, lighting, audio, software and real-time content. These solutions can be designed for brand activations, museums, healthcare environments, retail spaces, sports venues and permanent attractions.

Examples include the touch-free ActivePlay experience for the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation and the immersive AR/VR installation at The Shepherd.

Can Bluewater handle a project from concept through execution?

Yes. Bluewater can support strategy, creative development, experience design, engineering, fabrication, software, installation, production and ongoing technical support. Clients can engage Bluewater for one specialized capability or work with a coordinated team across the entire project.

Measurement

Can Bluewater help measure the return on a brand activation?

Yes. Measurement is designed into an activation at scoping rather than added once the build is finished. Bluewater can specify what the experience should record, build the capture into the interactive technology itself, and set out what the resulting figures do and do not show.

What can an interactive experience capture about the people who use it?

Depending on how the technology is designed, an interactive experience can measure unique participants, total interactions, dwell time, completion rates, repeat visits, scores and choices made throughout the experience. Bluewater builds data capture directly into the software, allowing brands to understand how people engaged rather than relying on estimates after the event.

At Ally’s activation during WNBA All-Star Weekend, Bluewater tracked 1,420 unique participants who played 1,131 games and scored a combined 330,370 points. These insights helped make Ally’s debut as the WNBA’s official banking partner both memorable and measurable.

AV Integration and Workplace Technology

What is commercial AV integration?

Commercial AV integration is the process of designing and connecting audio, video, display, control and collaboration technologies into one reliable system. Bluewater provides AV integration for workplaces, universities, stadiums, arenas, retail environments and other commercial spaces.

At the Tom Izzo Football Building at Michigan State University, Bluewater integrated displays, audio, meeting technology, digital signage and video distribution throughout the facility.

What types of AV systems does Bluewater install?

Bluewater designs and installs conference room technology, LED displays, video walls, digital signage, professional audio systems, control systems, video distribution and hybrid collaboration solutions. Every system is designed around the space, audience and way the technology will be used.
