Detroit '67 Museum Exhibit

The Detroit Historical Museum set out to educate a new generation about the 1967 Detroit Riots—one of the most pivotal moments in the city’s history. But how do you tell a story so emotionally charged and complex to visitors who never lived through it?

Traditional museum displays weren’t enough. The team needed to find a way to not just inform—but immerse—visitors in the chaos, fear, and transformation of that time. The challenge: create an experience that was emotionally resonant, technologically engaging, and historically accurate.

The solution was a fully immersive exhibit powered by dynamic lighting, evocative sound design, and compelling firsthand accounts. Guests could interact with the stories using intuitive tablets, which offered rich layers of information—photos, audio interviews, archival footage, and more. The space was designed to make visitors feel as if they had stepped into 1967 Detroit.

The Detroit ’67 exhibit became a powerful storytelling experience that resonated with visitors of all ages. By merging technology with human stories, it transformed historical education into emotional connection—ensuring the legacy of Detroit’s history would not be forgotten.
