The Tom Izzo Football Building at Michigan State University has been honored with the 2025 Build Michigan Award by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Michigan. This prestigious recognition celebrates the collaborative efforts and innovative design that transformed MSU’s football facilities into a state-of-the-art environment for student-athletes.
A Vision Realized Through Collaboration
Bringing this facility to life was a team effort, involving leading firms across multiple disciplines. Granger Construction served as construction manager, Integrated Design Solutions (IDS) led architectural planning, John E. Green Co handled experiential design and branding, and Bluewater Technologies provided all audiovisual integration for the space.
The result? A state-of-the-art building that reflects Michigan State’s commitment to excellence—both on and off the field.

A Facility Built for Champions
The $67.75 million renovation and expansion didn’t just modernize MSU’s football program—it redefined it. The building includes a 19,000-square-foot weight room, sports science and recovery areas, nutrition stations, and an enhanced locker room experience, all tailored to support athlete development and well-being.
The project team also overcame a unique challenge: construction took place while the facility remained partially in use. Meticulous planning and coordination were essential to maintaining athlete safety and project momentum.
Recognition Well Earned
The Build Michigan Award recognizes outstanding construction projects that demonstrate innovation, quality, and teamwork—and the Tom Izzo Football Building exemplifies all three. With Bluewater’s AV expertise, the facility not only meets the high standards of collegiate athletics but also sets a new benchmark for how technology can enhance sports environments.
