In 2012, the advertising and creative industry faced a glaring disparity—only 3% of U.S. Creative Directors were women, and even fewer were people of color. This lack of diversity meant missed opportunities for fresh perspectives and stronger consumer connections. Kat Gordon founded The 3% Movement with a bold mission: “Change the ratio.”
The movement sought to empower agencies with a roadmap to champion diverse creative leadership, ensuring that the voices shaping consumer narratives were as diverse as the audiences they served. The initiative quickly gained traction, raising the percentage of female Creative Directors from 3% to 29%.
A key driver of this change was The 3% Conference, an annual event that brought industry leaders together to drive discussions on diversity, equity, and innovation. To maximize the event’s impact, seamless production, cutting-edge visuals, and a highly engaging environment were critical.
