Taking a trek through KISONGO without ever leaving town.

To foster empathy and global awareness, a unique exhibit set out to transport visitors from the U.S. to Kisongo, a small village in Tanzania, allowing them to experience everyday life through the eyes of a 13-year-old villager. The goal was to create an emotionally engaging, educational journey that didn’t require a passport—just curiosity.

The challenge was to build a deeply immersive, interactive environment that would not only inform, but emotionally connect visitors to the people of Kisongo. The experience needed to blend storytelling and technology in a way that felt authentic, respectful, and impactful—while also capturing data to inform future iterations.

Bluewater designed and deployed a multi-sensory exhibit using a suite of cutting-edge tools including digital signage, show control systems, video walls, touchscreen technology, and advanced AV distribution. Custom programming helped create a seamless narrative, while NFC and facial recognition were discreetly integrated to track engagement and evaluate the effectiveness of specific touchpoints throughout the exhibit.

Visitors were fully immersed in the rhythms and realities of village life—engaging with stories, visuals, and interactive moments that built empathy and understanding. The exhibit became a powerful tool for global education, while the embedded tracking systems provided valuable insights for future tour optimization and content development. In short, it brought the heart of Kisongo to life—without ever leaving the city.
