Community festival comes alive with real-time, life-size video game movement mapping projection that engages all ages on the side of a multi-story building
Bluewater transformed Burton Tower on the campus of the University of Michigan into an enormous videogame screen that brought to life the “Superhero” concept created by Madrid-based arts collective Wildbytes. The real-time video images of participants were projected onto the side of the building tower, giving participants a variety of virtual activities to engage in. Activities included flying over special objects (e.g. toothpaste, DNA strand); flipping mid-air and throwing “energy” balls. A Microsoft Kinect was used with an Xbox 360 and a custom-made gesture recognition software and two Christie projectors in order to project real-time video images of the participants onto the side of the building.
